About Tracey J. Marshall
Tracey J. Marshall has been creating art for as long as she can remember. Growing up on a farm in North Carolina gave her endless inspiration, wide open spaces, hard work, and the freedom to create from whatever she had on hand. She carried that love of creativity with her to the Savannah College of Art and Design, where she studied both art and athletics, and later after a couple of knee surgeries from sports she transfered and earned her BFA at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
By 26, Tracey knew she wanted to build a space where art could thrive. She opened The Marshall Gallery in Greensboro, running it for six years before expanding into the Marshall Art Gallery a co-op, which she led through 2011. About ten years later, she even ran a one-year pop-up, Marshall’s Little Art Gallery, inside a friend’s frame shop, an experience that reminded her how much she loved bringing people and art together.
Over the years, Tracey has taught for more than 25 years, led countless workshops, and organized community events that celebrate the arts. Along the way, she’s been named one of the 100 Creative People in the Nation, honored among 40 Leaders Under 40, and won NC Ultimate Painting Champion in 2015. She’s served on boards like the Adult Center for Enrichment and The Touring Theatre and helped raise funds for schools and nonprofits across the Triad, from the Friends of Gateway Holiday Charity Event to arts initiatives at Greensboro Day School called Art Exposed and help start the annual fund at Cornerstone Charter Academy.
Teaching has always been a huge part of her journey. Tracey has taught privatly for 27yrs and taught high school Art full-time at Cornerstone Charter Academy from 2015–2020 and returned in 2024–2025 to teach Photography, while continuing to offer private lessons and mentor young artists.
Now, Tracey is excited to open the next chapter with The Marshall Muse Gallery coming in Fall 2025. Located in a charming 8700 sq ft English Tudor-style home in downtown Greensboro, the gallery will be a creative hub, with art exhibits, classes and workshops, artist studios, professional framing, and community events designed to bring people together through the arts.
